Mission Avoid Relegation-Part 2
Hello, people welcome to the newest edition of the badjokes European comedy tour series. If you haven’t read the last post yet then check it out Here Today we finish the season as we attempt to complete Misson Avoid Relegation! So far we’ve only gained 1 point from our first 5 games in charge so we really need to improve matters in the 5 games we have today can we get some more draws or even some wins to make sure we stay in the Superettan!! and more importantly to ensure we don’t get sacked!!
Away vs Örgryte IS
Hopes aren’t high for this game as we take on 6th placed Örgryte IS because of our recent form which is now 5 games without a win and not helping matters is the fact that both yes BOTH of our first choice central defenders are suspended for the game. after picking up too many yellow cards. We tried a new 4-4-1-1 formation with Genc dropping back into the AM position as a shadow striker and Keriakes replacing Miller in goal after miller has conceded a few easy goals lately.
Any desire the fans of either side had to see some goals were badly let down with neither team playing that well, until with the half time whistle approaching, we cleared a corner badly and a clever quick flick-on from Wiberg found Ackerman in the only space available in the box, he turned quickly and smashed the ball into the back of the net before our keeper even had a chance to react to ensure we go into the half time break 1-0 down. Things didn’t get any better after the halftime break as we still struggled to get any decent amount of time on the ball and our deficit was doubled in the 63rd minute when Orgyte passed the ball in front of our defence under no real pressure and the ball eventually got to Wiberg whose powerful drive from outside the edge of the box again left our keeper with no chance. Things did take a surprising turn after that however as completely against the run of play we scored a goal to send our 2 away fans wild in the 71st minute when Sletsjoe got the ball 30 yards out and scored an absolute thunderbolt of a goal to give us a little bit of hope. But of course, that hope was extinguished when ten minutes later Anton Andreasson tried his best to miss a close-range effort but of course, with our luck, it slid in the net off the right-hand post to ensure for the 2nd game in a row we’ve lost 3-1.
one minor positive is that somehow we’re now a point clear of the relegation playoff places with now just 4 games left to play.
Home vs Västerås IK
Another game and another new tactic as we continue to flounder as we look for a way to get anything from this game vs 5th placed Västerås IK.
The formation we went for, for this game was a 4-1-2-2-1 with a cautious mentality so we can just try to get a point out of this match. Miller came back into the team in goal as neither keeper has impressed at all yet, Durmaz and Hiwalt played on the wings in some vain hope that we might actually do some attacking.
This result more then any other I have had in a long long time I would like to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport so if anyone has man city’s lawyers details please send them over to me, as we robbed of any chance in this match when just 7 minutes into the game we down to ten men after the referee Per Melin sent Durmaz off for an innocuous challenge on Almstrom on our left wing when Durmaz had the ball Almstrom ran towards him and Durmaz stuck out a leg and quick as anything the ref had his red card out. and we reconfigured the formation to a 4-4-1 but 20 minutes later Melin gave a penalty against us when a throw-in came into the box and Matic breathed on Awad so of course, he fell over for a blatant penalty which was then converted by Karwen Safari. The referee appraiser clearly agreed that this was a couple of poor decisions as Melin got a 5.4 rating for the match. We never got out of our own half for the rest of the game but we limited them to only 1 more goal which came in the 81st minute when Almstrom volleyed a Floren cross from the left before Miller even saw the cross come into the box. That 2-0 defeat means that with just 3 games left were once again level on points with IK Frej who are 1 place below us in the relegation playoff places.
Away vs IF Brommapojkarna
Finally, in our 8th game in charge of the club, we have a game that we should have at least half a chance in as we take on bottom of the table Brommapojkarna, this is a massive game for both clubs as we are only 1 point ahead of them so a win could send us into the relegation places and lift Bromma out of the relegation zone. As if to intensify the nerves ahead of this game we had to wait two weeks from the Vasteras game for this one to kick-off. We decided to stick with the 4-1-2-2-1 formation that had been defensively solid against Västerås IK. The major positive is Ranégie playing his first game under my management after returning from a long injury layoff and it turns out my assistant manager rates him as our best striker so that gives us some hope going into this massive relegation 237 pointer.
We took an astonishing number of fans (53!!) with us on the very short 22 mile trip to Bromma, so they obviously sensed a victory for us despite the bookies marking us as 7-1 underdogs against the team bottom of the league. The game started badly for us as Bromma dominated the 1st half as I realised quickly that the 4-1-2-2-1 wasn’t the best idea, so we changed back to the 4-4-2 we had been using earlier in the season. That change gave us an immediate boost as 2 minutes after the break Matic whipped a cross from the left into the box and Snaeholm got pushed to the ground to give us a penalty which was then dispatched cooly by Ranégie to show us what we’ve been missing and to give us a 1-0 lead very much against the run of play. Bromma then threw everything at us to try and get back into the game but Miller in goal had a really good game pulling off some class saves, and then in the 73rd minute Hiawlt crossed from the byline on the right to Katourgi who was 2 yards out but still hit the post but the ball diverted into the back of the net to double our lead and to finally give me a win as a manager at the EIGHTH time of asking which now means that we are 3 points clear of the relegation playoff places with only 2 games of the season left to play so SURELY we are safe now.
Away vs Trelleborgs FF
Following our amazing mind-blowing victory against the team bottom of the league, we reverted to the 4-4-2 which we were using a couple games ago and which got us a much better performance in the second half of the game vs Brommapojkarna. The only change to the team saw Dyrestram being replaced by Genc as he partnered Ranégie up top as we tried to do the impossible and get two wins in a row as we took on 6th placed Trelleborgs.
We had a much longer away trip with this game with taking us to Trelleborg 380 miles away from Södertälje and only 3 brave souls took the trip with us down to the south coast for a game that once again we priced at 7-1 to win as I started to think that Swedish bookies don’t actually pay attention to our league and just copy and paste the odds for every game. We sent our loyal away fans wild in the 29th minute when Sletsjoe’s shot from the edge of the box was pinged straight into the top left corner of the net!
Any Aspirations we had of getting a 2nd win in a row were quickly dashed as just two minutes later the score was levelled when Christian Kohler said to Sletsjoe whatever you can do I can do better as he drove an even longer range effort into the bottom right corner of our net. Trelleborg dominated the game but we held on to get to half time level, however, our resistance was broken in the 54th minute when Bjorken’s cross from the right-wing was flicked on to Erik Andersson just outside the 6-yard box who poked the ball into the goal to win the game for Trelleborgs. To make matters worse the race to survive in the league took another twist as the team below us Norrby IF won their game to jump above us in the league on goal difference so it all goes down to our last game of the season as we try to avoid the relegation playoffs!!.
Home vs Mjällby AIF
The final game of the season
So it’s all come down to the last game of the season to decide if we’re going to be staying in this division automatically thus saving our job today or if we’re going to be in the relegation playoff, The table before the game starts looks like this with us having just fallen into the playoff places for the 1st time since I’ve taken over. Bromma below us are playing Jonkopings who are 7th in the table and Norrby who are the team we really need to concentrate on are up against Degerfors IF who are in tenth place so both games could go either way but I think we’re going to need them both to lose of we’re going to have any chance of surviving as our game today sees us up against Mjällby AIF who are 4th in the league so we certainly have the toughest game out of the three of us.
So for such a massive game against a team much higher in the league than us, I decided to set up to try and be very defensively solid to attempt to get a point out of this game and to hope that other results went our way in our hope to avoid the relegation playoffs.
We went with another new formation a 4-1-4-1 with Ranégie playing as the lone target man striker and with our wingers Matic & Hiwalt playing as inverted wingers as we attempt to control the middle of the pitch as we hope for a miracle to keep us in this league.
Considering the massive stakes involved in this game we started it in confident mood, we were passing the ball around nice and calmly albeit in our half and the halfway line but we looked good, that was until we had a massive scare when in the 13th minute Parsson headed a Jeahze corner into the back of the net as my heart dropped to a place much farther south then I would like it to be, but as the Mjällby players started to celebrate My heart quick returned to its normal spot as the referee ruled the goal out for too much pushing and shoving in the box.
That reprieve seemed to galvanise our team as just 6 minutes later Matic punted a free-kick from the centre circle into the penalty area where it connected with Johaness Ercan’s head and flew past the keeper to give us a very surprising 1-0 lead. Then with Half-time approaching the man who got the assist for our first goal doubled our lead when his driven effort from just outside the box fizzed towards the net and slid under the Mjällby keeper’s hands to give us a miraculous 2-0 half time lead as we dared to start thinking we might actually do the impossible and stay in the league.
The second half then passed without much event until the 91st minute when Mjällby again had the ball in the back of the net after an innocuous long ball went over Kabali’s head in our defence and fell to Jobe with an easy effort to half the deficit but once again we had the referee to thank as the goal was correctly ruled offside to ensure the match finished in a 2-0 win which with both Norrby & Bromma losing means that the Misson Impossible has been achieved as we have avoided relegation!!!
See ya later guys!!
